Sobek

Sobek

This beautiful specimen of American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus), was rescued by the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (MINAET), Sobek was found in very poor condition and fully bound, a fact that still does not explain is that you had 2 legs front amputated.

Sobek is a crocodile of 4.20 m and its weight is about 450 kg, is estimated to be 30 years old in the wild. You can stay 20 years in captivity but with good management.

Currently fed with 60 kilos of meat a month, but could eat up to 90 kg. Estos son los buhos "Estucuru" (Megascops clarkii) y "Sorococa" (Megascops colliba), ambas especies pueden ser encuentradas en los bosques de nuestro país.

Usualmente ellos hacen los nidos en árboles huecos donde ponen de 2 a 4 huevos, en algunos casos los que nacen de primero son los buhos o lechuzas más fuertes y desplazan al más debil, y caen al piso; en otros casos las personas cortan los árboles y caen los pichones, entonces es ahí cuando las personas se los encuentran y los traen al Refugio.

Los buhos que recibe el Refugio Herpetologico son entrenados para que aprendan a volar y cazar, de manera que se poden devolver a vida libre cuando pueden sobrevivir en su habitad; dandoles una segunda oportunidad.  

Katnis

Katniss belongs to the species Galictis vittata, known as Grisona, their natural habitat are near rivers humid forests. They are nocturnal animals and they feed consists of small rodents, birds and others.

It is a species that is threatened with extinction due to deforestation of the areas they inhabit.
